Colour Series: Metropolitan

This week we’re talking about Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year, 2019! A few years ago this paint giant shocked everyone with their arguably blasé choice of ‘Simply White.’ Following that we saw two truly committed picks with the rich and deep purple ‘Shadow,’ and spicy ‘Caliente’ red. After that brief departure, they are back to please the masses with the agreeable mid-tone grey, ‘Metropolitan.’

“Calm, composed and effortlessly sophisticated, Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year 2019, Metropolitan AF-690, exudes glamour, beauty and balance.” – Benjamin Moore

This pleasing neutral is the perfect backdrop for a gallery wall, with either a cohesive look of black and white matted frames, or an eclectic mix of metals and wood. Pair it with a saturated navy or hunter green for a more masculine and moody approach, or soften the room and create calm, with soft pinks and pastels. The way the colour shifts with the light, makes this versatile, silvery hue so  much fun to work with. In any application, you’re sure to add a touch of maturity and elegance to the space.

Metropolitan can be decidedly modern when paired with flat-stock baseboards and casings, furniture with clean lines, and a monochromatic palette, or discernibly traditional and timeless, with detailed millwork and brass or gold accents, layers of texture, and warm woods. If you’re a colour-commitmentphobe, cover your walls in this beautiful neutral, and add some greenery to breathe life into the space.

A safe update for your walls, cabinets, or doors that you’re sure to love for many years. Not ready to take on a big paint project with winter rolling in? Try it out on a small piece of furniture that needs updating. Let us know where you’re thinking of using Metropolitan in your home!
